The figures here are published national ranges from cost guides. They aren't quotes. Each one is a range at least two independent cost guides agree on. Use them to check a price, then ask appliance repair companies near you for an estimate.
| Charge | Published range |
|---|---|
| The service call: the visit and diagnosis | $70 to $1301-4 |
Dishwashers
Garbage disposals
| Job | Published range |
|---|---|
| A repair | $100 to $25010-12 |
| Replacing one where there's already a disposal, with the new unit | $200 to $55010, 13 |
| A new install where there wasn't one | $250 to $65014-15 |
A replacement uses the hookups already under the sink. A new install where there wasn't a disposal before is priced higher. Ask a company that quotes a new disposal whether it's pricing a replacement or a new install.
Ice makers
| Repair | Published range |
|---|---|
| A refrigerator's ice maker | $100 to $22516-18 |
| Replacing the water inlet valve | $85 to $17517-18 |
If the whole refrigerator has stopped cooling, Refrigerator not cooling: repair costs and what the technician needs has those ranges.
Built-in and over-the-range microwaves
Prices we don't give
- A new ice maker inside a refrigerator. Only one cost guide prices it.
- A microwave that sits on the counter. The published range is for built-in and over-the-range models.
- Prices by symptom or by brand. Cost guides price these repairs by appliance and by part, so the ranges aren't a diagnosis.
- Emergency and after-hours visits. Only one cost guide prices them.
Before you book
- Ask what the service call fee is and whether it counts toward the repair.
- If a repair touches a gas line, wiring or plumbing, ask the company who will do that part and which license they hold. How to check an appliance repair company has each state's licensing rule.
- Ask for a written estimate before the work starts. Some states require one, and Your right to a written estimate before an appliance repair lists them.
- What appliance repair costs has the ranges for every appliance.
Each company on this site is listed with its phone number where it has one, so you can call two or three and compare. You can also send a request through the request form.
Ranges compiled from HomeGuide, Fixr, Angi, HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack; safety lines from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U.S. Fire Administration, checked October 2026.
